Innsbruck Airport
The airport in Innsbruck is located in the Western part of the city, in the district called "Kranebitten", which is about 4 km away from the city centre.
The official name of the airport is "Flughafen Innsbruck-Kranebitten". The airport is in operation since 1948.
The first airport in Innbruck was opened in 1925, in the Eastern part of the city with the first scheduled flight Munich-Innsbruck.
Approaches and departures cause a very strong noise, because the sound waves are reflected by the mountains. Because of that the airport in Innsbruck has the lowest international noise control category III according to ICAO 1990. Additional the Innsbruck airport has the most severe operation times of all airports in Austria.
The airport in Innbruck has a very high importance for the tourism region of Tirol. Especially the charter air traffic is very high during the winter tourism.
